History
J L Brooks was established in 1920 by Ernest Lesley Brooks, unimpressed with the name Ernest he called himself Jack, hence the name J L Brooks. Jack left the Navy after the Great War and began the business of wholesaling Hams from his motorbike and side car in Hunslet to local shops in the Leeds area. Sometime before the Second World War J L Brooks moved to warehousing in Farsley, the business continued to grow and trade successfully throughout the war supplying wholesale provisions to grocery shops. After Jacks death in 1957 his wife and daughter (Madelyn) successfully ran the business until 1959 when Madelyn’s Sons John and Bernard Green joined the family business, they successfully continued wholesaling to the licensed trade and local shops until 2005, when they decided to retire in 2005 the business was bought by David Longfellow.
